Rolta has developed a customised solution that can seamlessly integrate GIS/mapping data from various Military mapping and Imaging Agencies received in different file formats. Data from various sources can be stored and integrated under a GIS project for display and query analysis. Customized tools for Map Updation, Creation of military grids, geo-referencing and display of map board covering the entire areas of responsibility are inbuilt. The application provides thin access (through Internet Explorer) to the end user for viewing, optimum route analysis, querying and analyzing the available data, across the various Field Formations/Units, through the LAN/WAN. Rolta customized GIS Solution is already being used in Engg Corps and infantry division.

The Customized Tools has user friendly and menu driven interfaces for dynamic creation of different types of military overlays/features, displaying maps based on the Formation Name/Map Sheet No and facilitates transfer of Overlays over the LAN/WAN. The important functionalities developed and integrated with the Customized application are as under: -

  • The software has an inbuilt library of military symbols required for creation of different types of tactical overlays for Operations, Intelligence and Logistics.
  • Tools for depiction of deployment of troops and logistical installations.
  • Automatically merging of updated overlays received from the lower formations at the higher formation
  • Graphically display the entire Defended Sector of a field formation showing the inter formation boundaries of neighbouring formations and lower formations.
  • The solution automatically generates a 3D Terrain Model of the displayed map based on the sun angle/time of the day.
  • The Solution incorporates numerous decision support aids such as finding shortest path, calculate gun density at selected areas, visualize deployment of different sensors and determine ideal camping sites along designated routes.
  • Dynamic Creation of Tactical Overlays: XML interfaces have been specifically customized for dynamic overlay creation. The user inputs the textual data, specifying location information and names of Units/formations; the system automatically invokes the customized application and displays the symbols at correct location on the map
