3D Terrain Modeling, Analysis & Visualization

The best way to conceptualize the actual surface of the terrain is to get a continuous view with details and height information displayed in 3D. This is useful for landscape mapping, utility mapping, watershed management, selecting sites for sewage treatment plants, alignment of rail/road networks, and catchment area identification.

Elevation Data Extraction (DTM)

At Rolta, we extract elevation data from stereo aerial images, for which we use world-class SSK solutions from Intergraph.

DTM with LIDAR

Airborne LIDAR technology is one of the most cost-effective and accurate solutions for elevation data collection. We plan and manage LIDAR missions and have the resources to deliver the best results using LIDAR technology. At Rolta, we combine LIDAR data with aerial photography to provide a detailed terrain model that accurately depicts terrain breaks and key terrain features.

Digital Elevation Model (DEM)

We create digital terrain models depicting the terrain in 3D using elevation data extracted from stereo aerial images or from LIDAR data.

We build 3D terrain models that are textured with shaded relief, or with wire mesh. These models offer a realistic visualization of the terrain with the look and feel of a classic sand model. We use the world-class Geomedia suite of software from Intergraph for terrain modeling. We also drape the associated images over the terrain model to create photographic-quality 3D visualization of the terrain.

3D City Modeling

Rolta creates precise and realizable 3D spatial information systems (3D city models) from your data to provide comprehensive information about man-made objects and vegetation cover for detailed analysis.

The most important characteristic of 3D city models is that it allows users navigate through them in a virtual manner -- walking, flying over it, or examining a specific area of interest. We have the domain expertise to build such a terrain model using your elevation and imagery data or by acquiring the data for you.
