Land Records
Land records/ cadastral data define the extent, value and ownership of land for taxation purposes. Since cadastral maps show parcels of land with ownership details, they are extensively used to meet the needs of many crucial public services, including tax assessment, ownership, emergency management, public works and homeland security planning. Hence, they need to be accurate. Conventional field books (paper) and village maps are being replaced by digital cadastres and Land Information Systems (LIS).
It’s critical to use GIS for land records for the following reasons:
- Planners needs updated, accurate and reliable parcel information that can be quickly retrieved for development activities
- Currently, all parcel details are available only in the form of paper maps or as FMB, available in the registers
- Revenue authorities have to deal with large volumes of data
- Locating, retrieving and updating parcel maps / land records is tedious and very slow
- Paper land records and documents tend to disintegrate over time
- Difficult to provide information on various scales and projections since the scale of village maps vary from region to region
- Cadastral network not tied to a national mapping network
- Cumbersome procedures to calculate accurate areas/ perimeters
- Difficulties in marking plot boundaries and their creation from field books - the procedure is tedious and varies from region to region
- Records in different languages that vary from state to state
Spatial Data Services and Application Development
What’s needed is a computerized land record system for the land and revenue departments. Rolta offers services that cover both spatial data creation and application development. Our spatial data services combine traditional data conversion and sophisticated project management activities to offer the best of both domains to end-users.
We have a large pool of specialists for both data conversion and application development. They support the following service areas to meet the requirements of revenue departments:
- Creation of digital data from existing paper maps
- Generation of parcel maps using FMB and ladder data
- Mosaicing of FMBs
- Local language interface
- Querying and retrieving any single plot boundary created from survey data
- Linking attribute information like plot numbers, ownership details, cost etc
- Projecting data on a national projection system
- Development of web-based land information syst
Revenue authorities also have to create large-scale land base maps associated with topographic features. With our wide experience in photogrammetry and image processing, we can create topographic maps with land use, 3D data modeling and GIS creation.
